JASNA Rochester’s special January meeting will take place on January 21, 2012 at the AAUW House, 494 East Avenue, Rochester NY. To promote discussion of the historical context of Jane Austen’s world, we will watch and discuss the film, The Madness of King George. This meeting will be at 1:00 p.m., with tea and cookies. A business meeting to coordinate JASNA-Rochester volunteers will be held after the discussion.

On February 18 at 1:00 p.m. we return to our regular meeting space at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore Community Room in Pittsford Plaza on Monroe Avenue. We will discuss Jane Austen’s novel, Mansfield Park. The discussion leader for this meeting will be Professor Leo Rockas. All are welcome!

The Jane Austen Society of North America Rochester Chapter welcomes all who share an interest in reading and discussing Jane Austen, her novels (and other writing), and her historical context. New York has three regional societies: New York Metro, Rochester, and Syracuse (including points east, north, and the Southern Tier).

JASNA-Rochester meets from September through May, usually on the third Saturday of the month at the Pittsford, NY Barnes & Noble Community Room, except when otherwise noted. We take a hiatus for the summer, but return on the third Saturday in September.

Upstate “Juvenilia” Group?

As you may know, JASNA-New York Metro has an active “Juvenilia” group for JASNA members forty and younger who are interested in gathering for activities, trips, films, etc. beyond regular JASNA meetings. JASNA Rochester and JASNA Syracuse would like to explore an “Upstate” Juvenilia group for younger members who might like to do things like go out to eat together, host “mother-daughter” (or “father-daughter” or “aunt-niece”) events, seek adventure, or plan travel.

Does this sound interesting to you? JASNA is a welcoming group to Jane Austen fans of all ages. A Juvenilia group won’t divide us–it will provide more opportunities to explore Jane Austen’s works and cultural context.
